My name is John, founder and passionate watchmaker behind Johnson Watches. Today, I’d like to share the story of how a dream turned into a lifelong journey—and eventually, a brand.

A young start with bold ambition
At just 15 years old, I began crafting my first handmade watches and showcasing them alongside my grandfather’s restored timepieces at small watchmakers' craft fairs.

What started as youthful curiosity quickly became a calling. I discovered the magic of connecting with people through the art of watchmaking—whether it’s a cherished heirloom, a personal statement, or a mechanical masterpiece.

Paris – The City That Reignited My Flame

Although I had always been passionate about watchmaking, I chose to study economics in Chicago, believing it was the more sensible path.

But my heart never truly left the craft. It was a life-changing journey to Paris that reignited my passion for horology.

The city’s artistic spirit, its history-laced streets, and timeless elegance overwhelmed me.

In Paris, I fell in love all over again—not just with the city, but with the art of watchmaking.

Determined to dive deeper, I traveled across Europe, learning from master watchmakers who taught me ancient techniques—skills that now define every timepiece we create at Johnson Watches.

Turning Dreams into Reality—In the Smallest of Spaces

When I returned to New York, life gifted me love and partnership through my wife, and together we began building the foundation of what had always been my dream.

At just 27 years old, with very little money but a heart full of determination, I opened my very first watch atelier—tucked away in a quiet corner of the city.

Those early years were a true rollercoaster of triumphs and setbacks.

Balancing the demands of a new business with family life—especially with our daughter Lisa—was far from easy.

But with every challenge came a new opportunity: to grow, to refine my craft, and to create timepieces that resonate with people's lives.
